How to Register Births and Deaths Online Through the NPC Platform
The Federal Government has introduced an NPC self-service platform for birth and death registration, birth attestation applications, record corrections and online certificate verification. The platform is intended to reduce the queues and paperwork often associated with civil registration. Nigerians who need help can still visit any National Population Commission registration centre nationwide. Birth registration for children under five remains free at NPC centres. Online birth registration costs ₦5,000. The child must be born in Nigeria, have a NIN, and have at least one Nigerian parent. One parent must also hold a valid birth certificate. Processed certificates can be downloaded once, while extra copies require a reprint application. Death registration is free. Applicants must provide the informant's NIN, along with details such as the deceased's identity, place and cause of death, residence, occupation and selected registration centre. A confirmation email is sent after successful registration.
