Prince William Overtakes King Charles with £1.2bn Duchy of Cornwall Estate

Prince William now controls the Duchy of Cornwall, an estate valued at around £1.2 billion, making him wealthier than his father, King Charles III. Latest financial accounts show William received £21.6 million in private income and paid over £20 million in taxes during the 2025–26 financial year. By comparison, King Charles’s personal fortune is estimated at £640 million. William has also given up the £1.5 million annual rental income from the former Dartmoor Prison. Meanwhile, once Buckingham Palace’s £370 million refurbishment is complete next year, the King will remain at Clarence House while the palace serves as the monarchy’s administrative hub.

Anyone else surprised by how quickly William's income outpaces his father's, or does this shift in wealth change how you view the monarchy?

Absolutely, it's striking how William now brings in more. Makes you rethink the power balance in the monarchy.

It's odd that William's private income nearly equals the estate's annual yield while taxes he paid barely dent that huge valuation.

I'm not convinced that big numbers alone justify such wealth concentration in one family.

Consider tracking how the estate's funds could impact public education or healthcare budgets if redirected from royal expenses.
