Itu LGA Enforces Ban on Roadside Truck and Tanker Parking

Itu LGA Enforces Ban on Roadside Truck and Tanker Parking — 1 of 4
1 / 4

The Itu Local Government Council of Akwa Ibom has banned the indiscriminate parking of trucks and tankers on roadsides and other unauthorised areas. Operators must now use the approved truck park at Ntak Inyang Itam, effective immediately. An official notice signed by the council secretary on behalf of the Executive Chairman warns that any vehicle found outside the designated facility will face prosecution under state laws and council bye-laws. Enforcement will involve the Police, NSCDC and DSS to ensure strict compliance across the local government. The council says the move aims to restore order, improve public safety and maintain smooth traffic flow in communities troubled by haphazard parking of heavy-duty vehicles.

Do you think the new ban will ease traffic flow in Itu town or create new challenges?

I agree, clearing those trucks should open up the road, but we'll need marked parking spots to prevent new congestion.

This ban might just shift the parking problem to surrounding residential streets where there's even less capacity for big trucks.

I understand the council's intent, but forcing all operators to Ntak Inyang Itam could hike their costs and lead to price increases.

Operators might coordinate group trips to the new approved park in Ntak Inyang Itam to minimise downtime and reduce individual travel costs.
