CNCDS Urges Atiku to Choose Statesmanship Over Another Presidential Run

The Concerned Nigerians for Democratic Sustainability (CNCDS) has called on former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to shift from repeated bids for power and play a statesman’s role ahead of 2027. In a statement, CNCDS highlighted Nigeria’s need for leadership transition and generational renewal. It warned that Atiku’s pursuit of a seventh presidential contest risks weakening opposition coalitions and sidelining younger voices. The group urged him to mentor emerging leaders, promote coalition unity, and support a new political culture focused on competence and inclusion rather than personality politics.

What qualities do you think Atiku should bring to a statesman's role instead of pursuing another bid in 2027?

When you say 'statesmanship', are you asking about his track record on national unity or more about policy expertise?

It's striking how CNCDS portrays Atiku's repeated bids as outdated, yet those entrenched in power rarely shift course easily.

I'm not convinced Atiku stepping back solves anything when underlying political dynamics remain unchanged and personal ambitions drive most decisions.

Perhaps CNCDS could draft a mentorship program for younger leaders, channeling Atiku's experience into structured guidance ahead of 2027.
