Kachikwu-Led ADC Faction Calls Emergency Convention Amid Leadership Crisis
Dumebi Kachikwu’s faction of the African Democratic Congress has moved to convene a national convention. Spokesperson Norman Obinna announced this in Abuja after an emergency National Executive Committee meeting. The meeting aimed to resolve an internal leadership dispute. An earlier Alternative Dispute Resolution agreement mandated a convention nearly two years ago. Obinna accused the former leadership under Ralph Nwosu of trying to hand control to non-members and sidelining state chairmen. The faction has filed two court cases challenging those moves. It also distanced itself from a rival coalition involving David Mark, Rauf Aregbesola, and others. The group rejected Nafiu Bala Gombe’s leadership claims and urged diplomatic missions not to recognise the rival team. An interim leadership team will manage party affairs until a new National Working Committee is elected. The faction has called on INEC to recognise this arrangement as it positions itself for the 2027 elections.
