I once had a housemaid whose parents were trapped in debt. When we paid off her family’s burdens, she changed her song of lament into one of victory. Similarly, when we cry to the Burden Bearer, He can turn lack into abundance. Debts can enslave us (Proverbs 22:7). But God promises that His grace will abound and give us sufficiency (2 Corinthians 9:8), empower us to get wealth (Deuteronomy 8:18), and even make us lenders to nations (Deuteronomy 15:6).
