Why Nigerians Must Demand Concrete Security Plans from 2027 Candidates
The 2027 election season is looming while insecurity devours communities from Sokoto to Calabar and Maiduguri to Lagos. We keep hearing excuses—political plots, equipment shortages, calls for patience—but no concrete strategy to protect lives. Our security agencies remain reactive. They offer condolences and fleeting deployments but never mount intelligence-led operations before attacks. Criminal syndicates exploit this pattern to strike at will and reap massive ransoms under near-total impunity. Media coverage amplifies every tragedy but rarely demands specific plans from politicians. Both ruling and opposition parties recycle blame without presenting operational blueprints for preemptive strikes or systemic reform. True security also depends on economic opportunity and a justice system that enforces existing laws. Swift convictions and the signing of death warrants for proven mass kidnappers could shift the risk calculus. As Nigerians, we must insist that every 2027 candidate presents a clear, actionable security agenda—and hold them to it.
