Ogun Forestry Commissioner Distributes Free LNG to Over 100 Residents to Ease Cost of Living

In a move to ease the rising cost of household energy, Ogun State Forestry Commissioner Engr. Taiwo Oludotun distributed free Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) worth ₦3,600 each to more than 100 residents. The initiative drew beneficiaries from several communities and aimed to provide immediate relief amid economic challenges. Oludotun said the gesture reflects a people-centered approach to welfare and environmental sustainability. He encouraged recipients to handle and store their cylinders safely while making the gas supply last. Beneficiaries expressed gratitude, noting that reduced cooking fuel costs would free up resources for other essential needs. Community leaders also praised the initiative and urged other officials to support similar community-focused programmes.

It's interesting, but I wonder if delivering only 100 cylinders will really make a dent in overall living expenses.

Still, shouldn't the state focus more on sustainable pricing policies rather than one-off giveaways that benefit a limited number?

Maybe local co-ops could partner with forestry offices to schedule regular bulk purchasing schemes for subsidised LNG to stretch budgets further.
