Sowore Urges FG to Demolish Mansions of Corrupt Officials

Sowore Urges FG to Demolish Mansions of Corrupt Officials — 1 of 2
1 / 2

Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore has called on the Federal Government to apply demolition laws on properties built with stolen public funds. He argued that if the government can destroy buildings used by kidnappers, it should also tear down mansions acquired through corruption. Sowore’s demand follows Oyo State’s recent demolition of a three-bedroom apartment in Ibadan linked to a kidnapping case. He stressed that looting the public treasury is akin to kidnapping the nation’s future, harming healthcare, education, infrastructure, and livelihoods. He insisted that properties built on stolen funds deserve the same punishment as those used for criminal activities. Sowore believes enforcing this principle would deter officials from misappropriating public resources and restore citizens’ trust.

The government should first trace and freeze corrupt assets, then ensure fair trials before considering any demolition.
