UN Highlights AI’s Role in Early Disease Detection and Expanded Healthcare Access
A new United Nations report shows how artificial intelligence is reshaping global healthcare. AI tools are detecting diseases like breast cancer earlier, improving survival rates through faster diagnosis and treatment. The technology is also speeding up medical research and supporting clinical decisions. In many developing regions, AI applications now offer diagnostic support and medical information in local languages, helping communities with limited access to professionals. Beyond health, the report notes AI’s benefits in education, accessibility for people with disabilities, mental health services and forecasting food shortages to guide humanitarian responses. It warns, however, that weak governance could fuel privacy breaches, bias and inequality. The UN calls for stronger international cooperation to set ethical, transparent standards. Governments, tech firms, researchers and civil society must work together to maximise AI’s benefits while managing its risks.
