Mannir Dan-Iya Secures ADC Governorship Ticket for Sokoto 2027

Former Deputy Governor of Sokoto State, Mannir Dan-Iya, has emerged as the African Democratic Congress’s governorship candidate for the 2027 elections after primaries across all 244 wards. He polled 52,831 votes, according to Prof. Aminu Abubakar Illela, the exercise’s Chief Returning Officer. Dan-Iya thanked delegates for their confidence and pledged to work tirelessly to challenge the ruling party. He expressed gratitude to former Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal for his support and called on party members to unite. Tambuwal urged patience and stressed the importance of free and fair elections nationwide. Dan-Iya served as Tambuwal’s deputy governor from 2018 to 2023 and was chosen by consensus among ten aspirants, including Senator Ibrahim Lamido, former ambassador Faruk Malami Yabo, ex-minister Yusuf Suleiman and ex-PDP candidate Saidu Umar.
