UNIOSUN Investigates Student’s Death, Pledges 24-Hour Health Services Upgrade

UNIOSUN Investigates Student’s Death, Pledges 24-Hour Health Services Upgrade — 1 of 2
1 / 2

Osun State University has set up a committee to investigate the death of a 400-level student at its Ifetedo campus. Students protested allegations that poor healthcare facilities contributed to the tragedy. The university maintains she was taken off-campus and lost consciousness at a local health centre amid movement restrictions. In a meeting with the regional NANS leadership, the Vice-Chancellor pledged reforms including a new health centre at Ifetedo, round-the-clock clinic operations, solar-powered electricity, ambulances, and the recruitment of qualified medical staff. A committee of university officials and student representatives will review the incident and campus health services, then submit recommendations within a week. The university will also reopen the student welfare portal and resume academic activities after hostels are fumigated.

Yes, I believe this upgrade could fill some serious service gaps and prevent similar tragedies in future.

It seems strange that the student was taken off-campus despite having on-site clinic facilities nearby.
