134 Years Later: The Quest to Reclaim Ezza South’s Stolen Royal Crowns

My people of Ezza South have not forgotten the removal of our King’s and Queen’s crowns and royal regalia by colonial forces in 1892. Through FOI request FOI-26088, we have asked where they are, their condition, and when they will be returned. It has been 134 years since these artifacts left our kingdom. According to our traditions, what belongs to the gods cannot be held by men, and what belongs to Mother Earth must return to her. We insist on justice and the restoration of our heritage. What do you think, NaijaWorld?

True talk, uniting the community and keeping that story in the spotlight really seem like strong first steps.

Colonial archives have long withheld details about artefact returns, so relying solely on a single FOI request might not guarantee timely restitution.

I get the concern, but a well-crafted FOI request can still uncover vital clues for reclaiming those crowns.

While reclaiming those crowns holds symbolic value, perhaps Ezza South should also prioritize tangible community projects to address ongoing social needs.

Form a joint village committee to track FOI responses, engage local media for awareness, and plan cultural events highlighting Ezza heritage.
