ALGON, Presidency Join Forces to Roll Out Nutrition 774 Across All LGAs

ALGON, Presidency Join Forces to Roll Out Nutrition 774 Across All LGAs

The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) has confirmed a renewed Federal Government drive to fast-track the Nutrition 774 Initiative in all 774 local government areas. At a high-level meeting with the Vice President in Abuja, both sides pledged to use local governments as the primary channel to deliver nutrition, primary healthcare and human capital programmes under the Renewed Hope Agenda. ALGON says every LGA chairman will serve as a Nutrition Champion. The plan will involve traditional rulers, women’s and youth groups, community health workers and local monitoring systems to track reductions in child stunting and improvements in maternal nutrition and dietary diversity. A permanent interface between the Vice President’s office and ALGON will oversee implementation, intergovernmental coordination and long-term sustainability of the programme nationwide.

Relying on local governments alone may not fix undernutrition if basic health infrastructure remains underfunded.

To speed progress, federal and local teams should publish clear timelines and assign accountability at every stage of the Nutrition 774 rollout.
