Treasures in Heaven: Investing in God’s Kingdom

Treasures in Heaven: Investing in God’s Kingdom

In this third part of my message, I reflect on Jesus’ teaching about storing treasures in heaven. I describe these as “Kingdom investments” — acts that may not always be recognised or rewarded on earth but are valued by God. Matthew 6:19–21 warns against placing all our hope in earthly wealth, which can be affected by inflation, loss, fraud, theft and other uncertainties. When our hearts are tied only to material possessions, such losses can leave us devastated. I believe we store treasures in heaven by supporting God’s work with our time, strength and resources; caring for people in need; and living without allowing worldly values to draw us away from godliness. These acts of faith and service are lasting investments in God’s Kingdom. Like a water tank connected to a flowing river, a life rooted in God can remain fruitful even in difficult seasons. Psalm 1 reminds us that those planted by God’s living water will not wither.

The reminder that earthly recognition is not the measure of value can be comforting for people quietly trying to do good.

The focus on heaven is important, but it should not become a reason to ignore practical needs and injustice around us now.
