Timi Frank Urges US Intervention as INEC and APC Threaten Nigeria’s Democracy

Former APC deputy publicity secretary Timi Frank has accused INEC and the ruling APC of actions that could destabilize Nigeria’s democratic system. He warns that interference in opposition parties recalls tactics from the Sani Abacha era and could “set Nigeria on fire” ahead of the 2027 elections. Frank calls on the United States under President Donald Trump to step in and safeguard democratic values. He also urges Nigerian institutions—including the Bar Association, labour unions, trade unions, medical association, and traditional rulers—to speak out and defend the nation’s democracy. He alleges that court decisions are being used to frustrate opposition parties and cautions that continued erosion of judicial integrity may push Nigeria toward crisis. Frank warns that silence at this critical moment is not an option.

Could Timi Frank's call for US intervention actually help or would it further undermine Nigeria's sovereignty and democratic process?

I no too sure say foreign intervention fit resolve our issues; sometimes external pressure just complicates local politics.

A better starting point might be strengthening civil society oversight and voting processes rather than relying on external actors to fix our democracy.
