Lateef Adedimeji’s ‘Lisabi’ Triumphs as Best West African Indigenous Film at AMVCA
Lateef Adedimeji’s historical epic, Lisabi: A Legend Is Born, won Best Indigenous Language Film (West Africa) at this year’s Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA). The Yoruba-language production is directed by Niyi Akinmolayan and produced by Adedimeji alongside his wife, Adebimpe Oyebade Adedimeji. The film tells the story of Lisabi Agbongbo-Akala, the Egba folk hero who united his people against oppression. Critics have praised its rich drama, authentic cultural details and stunning visuals. Lisabi also secured awards for Best Art Direction and Best Makeup, underscoring its technical and artistic excellence. Other nominees included The Serpent’s Gift, Labake Olododo, Aljana and Olorisha. At the ceremony, the Adedimejis thanked their team and dedicated the win to their growing family, celebrating Mo Bimpe’s recent birth of triplets.
