OSOPADEC, Ilaje Lawmakers Inspect Aboto–Atijere Road, Promise Completion by December 2026

OSOPADEC, Ilaje Lawmakers Inspect Aboto–Atijere Road, Promise Completion by December 2026 — 1 of 4
1 / 4

During an inspection of the Aboto–Atijere Road project, OSOPADEC Chairman Prince Olabiyi Poroye and Hon. Segun Iwalokun led a delegation from the Ilaje Legislative Council. They assured residents the road would be completed before December 2026. The visit allowed them to review progress and reaffirm state government support. Prince Poroye called the road a critical link for economic, social, and security reasons. He noted that the project began in 2019 with a 24-month completion target but stalled due to funding and administrative challenges. Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s administration has since intervened to ensure steady progress. Contractor Managing Director Chief Akindele Fajemiyo confirmed earlier delays were due to funding shortages. He commended the governor for guaranteeing funds and pledged to finish the road this year. Only seven kilometres remain between Akata Junction and Atijere. Community leaders, including the Oloja of Akata, Chief Oke Olejagbo, praised the renewed effort. They said the completed road would ease tensions between Makun and Atijere communities and spark lasting development.

What impact do you think the promised 2026 completion will have on local businesses and daily commuters along Aboto–Atijere Road?

Do you think ongoing works before 2026 will still slow down traders on that route?

It's interesting they set December 2026 for delivery, but similar projects around here always face funding and logistical delays, so I remain cautious.

Promising a deadline two years away feels like political theater more than serious planning unless they outline clear milestones.

Local residents could organize regular site visits and document progress; that way they can hold OSOPADEC accountable if timelines slip.
