Constituents Urge Speaker to Vacate Hon. Kingsley Chinda’s Seat Over Party Defection
A group of concerned constituents has petitioned the Speaker of the House of Representatives to declare the Obio/Akpor Federal Constituency seat held by Hon. Kingsley Ogundu Chinda vacant. They cite Section 68(1)(g) of the 1999 Constitution, which mandates that a lawmaker elected on one party’s platform must lose their seat if they join another party before the end of their term. Hon. Chinda was elected under the Peoples Democratic Party and has since taken steps to join the All Progressives Congress. The petitioners present public evidence, including the purchase of APC nomination forms and screening records, and call on the House to enforce the constitutional provision and vacate the seat.
