Senate Rejects Arrest Warrant for Kyari, Rebukes Oshiomhole’s ‘Criminals and Thieves’ Comment
The Senate has distanced itself from Senator Adams Oshiomhole’s description of the NNPC as “a bunch of criminals and thieves,” saying his views do not represent the Red Chamber. Lawmakers clarified that no committee may issue or execute an arrest warrant without strict compliance with the Legislative Houses (Powers and Privileges) Act and the express approval of the Senate President. Some senators demanded that Oshiomhole publicly withdraw his statement. He defended his remarks as a provoked reaction to alleged attacks on members by NNPC officials and said he is willing to apologise if the Senate deems it necessary. During a heated debate, the Senate reaffirmed its commitment to due process and legislative decorum. Senators also noted that former NNPCL boss Mele Kyari says he is abroad for critical medical care amid the warrant controversy.
