Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal Tops 2026’s Most Valuable Footballers as Osimhen Misses Out

Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal Tops 2026’s Most Valuable Footballers as Osimhen Misses Out — 1 of 4
1 / 4

Barcelona and Spain winger Lamine Yamal has been named the world’s most valuable footballer for 2026 by the CIES Football Observatory. His €358.1 million valuation places the 18-year-old ahead of Erling Haaland (€227.3 m) and Kylian Mbappé (€165.7 m). Yamal’s technical skill, creativity and consistency at club and international level convinced analysts he has the highest long-term potential. His long-term contract at Barcelona further boosts his market value. Notably absent from the top 20 – and even the top 100 – is Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen. The 27-year-old’s move to Galatasaray and age factors have weighed down his ranking in the CIES model.

Those valuations feel driven more by hype than proven performance, especially at just 18 years old.

I'm not convinced an astronomical price tag guarantees sustained success in top-flight football.

Clubs should focus on nurturing his technical skills and game intelligence instead of chasing headline valuations.
