Is Nigeria’s Democracy Dying? APC Convention and the Rise of One-Man Rule
I have long refused party membership, but I’m far from neutral on our country’s fate. After watching the recent APC convention, I fear Nigeria’s democratic foundations are crumbling. Political leaders claim to honour founding fathers, yet they set the stage for one-man dictatorship, third-term bids and lifetime presidencies. We see fanatics and traditional rulers already pushing for a constitutional amendment to extend tenure. History warns us. Hitler’s rise began with silent majorities. African dictators thrive while citizens stay muted. We risk the same horrors in Nigeria unless patriots speak out. Learn from the tragic ends of those who aided dictators, from Kenya’s George Saitoti to Stalin’s Beria. Right now, our freedom hangs by a thread. It’s time to act before “the lights of democracy go out.”
