FIFA Opens Ethics Probe into Congolese FA Chiefs over Alleged Fund Misuse
FIFA has initiated formal ethics proceedings against three senior figures of the Congolese Football Association. The investigatory chamber of the independent Ethics Committee reviewed internal documents and evidence to open the case. The officials under scrutiny are FECOFOOT President Jean-Guy Mayolas, General Secretary Wantete Badji, and Finance Director Raoul Kanda. Authorities allege irregularities in how FIFA development funds were managed, including allocations for women’s football and infrastructure. A court in Brazzaville has reportedly convicted Mayolas and two family members in absentia for embezzling roughly $1.1 million in FIFA funds. Mayolas received a life sentence, while Badji and Kanda were given five-year prison terms. FIFA says the investigation may widen as more evidence emerges and reaffirmed its commitment to transparency in football governance.
