Oshiomhole Alleges Akpabio’s Daughter Secured NNPC Role Without Due Process

Senator Adams Oshiomhole claims that the Senate President’s daughter was appointed to a lucrative position at the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited without following the normal recruitment process. Speaking on the Mic On Podcast, he accused Mele Kyari of facilitating the appointment and said it bypassed regular interviews and qualifications. He argued this pattern reflects entrenched nepotism at the NNPC, where children and relatives of top officials often land key roles. Oshiomhole emphasised that employing relatives is only problematic if they lack merit or the proper vetting is skipped. He also defended the Senate’s decision to challenge a bench warrant against Kyari, noting the legislature’s constitutional powers in oversight matters.

It seems odd that a high-profile role would bypass established recruitment steps, especially given NNPC's usual emphasis on merit and process.

A good step could be calling for an independent audit of NNPC recruitment records to ensure fairness in all senior appointments.
