Benin and Ile-Ife: Reclaiming Our Shared Ancient Heritage

Benin is an ancient kingdom with over 900 years of history. Today's Edo people are its direct descendants. Oduduwa founded Ekaladeran. A Benin prince became the king of Ile-Ife. This shows Edo and Yoruba are brothers, not enemies. In 1897, six ships used “tribal war” as an excuse to loot Benin. They erased much of Ife’s history too. When one family’s record is stolen, the whole family loses its past. We demand that all colonial records be released under FOI-26088. Let the world see our true connection and restore history to both Benin and Ile-Ife.
