PCN Shuts Down 572 Medicine Outlets in Plateau for Regulatory Breaches
The Pharmacy Council of Nigeria carried out a four-day operation across eight local government areas in Plateau State, sealing 572 drug outlets. Targets included pharmacies, patent medicine stores and illegal premises found cooking inside drug outlets, practising without authorisation and mishandling controlled medicines. Inspectors visited 778 locations, issuing five compliance directives under the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (Establishment) Act No. 31 of 2022. The exercise is part of a national effort to enforce the National Drug Distribution Guidelines and curb substandard or falsified products. Authorities warn that improper storage and unauthorised access to poisons pose grave risks to public health and security. The PCN emphasised that all medicine outlets must meet licensing requirements and urged residents to patronise only approved premises.
