Planning Kaduna to Port Harcourt Drive: Route and Stopover Tips

Hello fellow travellers, I have an official trip this Thursday or Friday from Kaduna to Port Harcourt in my 2017 Accord. I haven’t driven this route before and need advice on road conditions and safety. I’m weighing three options: Kaduna–Kachia–Markurdi, Kaduna–Abuja–Nasarawa–Otukpo, or Kaduna–Lokoja–Idah–Onitsha. Any tips on risks, recommended stopovers or the best road to follow would be very helpful. Also, I’d appreciate suggestions for reliable hotels around Choba in Port Harcourt. Thanks in advance for your input!

Has anyone tried the Kaduna–Kachia–Markurdi leg recently, and did road repairs improve safety or travel time?

Which segment of the Kaduna–Kachia–Markurdi stretch did they actually repair?

I noticed Abuja to Nasarawa can get busy with trucks at night, not sure it's the quickest choice.

Honestly, pushing through Kaduna–Abuja–Nasarawa might add unnecessary distance when the Markurdi route feels more direct.

Plan your fuel stops around Lafia and Makurdi, and schedule breaks before dusk to avoid low visibility on rural stretches.
