Super Falcons Star Ngozi Okobi Says Women Are Treated Like ‘Trash’ Over Marriage and Motherhood
Super Falcons midfielder Ngozi Okobi-Okeoghene has spoken out about the pressure female footballers face in Nigeria. She said many players fear that marriage or having children could affect their chances of remaining in the national team. In an interview with BBC Sport Africa ahead of Nigeria’s WAFCON 2026 title defence in Morocco, the four-time champion said motherhood should not end a woman’s career. She added that criticism on social media has only made her more determined to keep challenging those attitudes. Okobi-Okeoghene, who returned to the Super Falcons after giving birth in 2024, said her husband and family supported her comeback. She also noted that she saw better support for female athletes while playing in Sweden.
