Humanoid Robot Shatters Human Half-Marathon Record in Beijing

Humanoid Robot Shatters Human Half-Marathon Record in Beijing

A recent half-marathon in Beijing pitted humanoid robots against the clock. The top autonomous robot finished in 50 minutes 26 seconds, beating the human world record of about 57 minutes. An even faster machine from the same company clocked 48 minutes 19 seconds but was excluded from the official standings because it was remotely controlled. Around 40% of the robots ran fully on their own, while the rest relied on human operators. Some robots stumbled at the start or collided with barriers. Compared to last year’s two-hour best time, this year’s results highlight rapid gains in robot agility and endurance.

I'm not convinced this counts as a fair record when an even faster model was excluded from official timing standards.

If robotics firms want wider acceptance, they'll need transparent rules around machine competitions and standards matching existing athletic guidelines.
