US Immigration Crackdown: 110 Nigerians Among West Africans Facing Deportation
The US Department of Homeland Security plans to remove 110 Nigerians linked to fraud, smuggling and violent crimes. This makes Nigeria the top West African country on the deportation list, with nearly a third of the 355 nationals named. Liberia follows with 94 cases, Ghana with 30 and Senegal with 19. Other countries include Cameroon, Gambia, Ivory Coast, Mauritania, Cape Verde and more. Expedited removals focus on those with prior criminal convictions. Deportees are flown into Accra before being repatriated home under ECOWAS free-movement protocols. Nigeria has resisted US requests to accept third-party nationals routed through its territory, citing domestic challenges. Topping the list may worsen already strained ties with Washington and add to concerns over Nigeria’s reputation abroad.
