FG Refutes Claims of 40% Peculiar Allowance for Federal Workers
The Federal Government has dismissed reports that it approved a 40% peculiar allowance for civil servants. At a press briefing on April 24, the Head of the Civil Service announced enhancements to welfare benefits, including full duty tour allowance for approved training, reviews of allowances under CONPSS and CONRAISS, and increases in estacode and book allowances. However, the Office of the Head of the Civil Service clarified that no 40% peculiar allowance was approved or communicated to unions. It noted that only the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission can issue such circulars. A meeting on May 12 was described as a conciliatory effort to facilitate dialogue between organised labour and the salaries commission, not a venue for approving new allowances.
