Fraud Trial of Ex-Gov Lamido and Sons Postponed as Lead Lawyer Fails to Appear

The fraud trial of former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido and his sons, Aminu and Mustapha, was postponed again after their lead counsel failed to show up in court. The hearing scheduled before Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu at the Federal High Court in Maitama, Abuja, was adjourned when SAN Joe Agi was absent. Defence co-counsel explained the lead lawyer travelled to Germany to meet a witness and had taken case documents along. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission is prosecuting them on a 37-count charge involving alleged money laundering, illegal kickbacks and fake contract awards totalling ₦1.35 billion during Lamido’s tenure from 2007 to 2015. The court agreed to postpone until September, with a new date to be communicated soon. The defence has promised to conclude its case within days once the trial resumes.
