PDP Chairmen Resume Council Duties in Osun After Court Dismisses APC Case

Chairmen elected on the PDP platform in the February 22, 2025 local government election have returned to work at several council secretariats across Osun State. This follows a Federal High Court ruling in Osogbo on June 15 that dismissed an APC-backed legal challenge and affirmed that the APC chairmen’s tenure ended in October 2025. Officials from Ede South, Ede North, Iwo, Ila-Orangun and Ifedayo local governments were among those filmed resuming duties. Videos shared online show Iwo council chairman Hon. Kabir Moshood and Ila-Orangun chairman Hon. Nasir Jayeola Adebisi taking their oaths of office at their respective secretariats. Supporters at Ede North and Ede South chanted party slogans as PDP chairmen took their places. At Ede North, Hon. Shina Sepenteri appealed for peace and cooperation with security agencies. Otunba Sarafadeen Abiodun Awotunde, chief of ALGON in Osun State, described the event as a restoration of democratically elected local government administration.

The court's dismissal of APC's challenge seems unusually swift, raising doubts about possible legal oversights in the process.

I'm not convinced that simply resuming duties ensures better governance; accountability and service delivery still depend on real oversight.

Council staff should document any delays or disruptions now that the PDP chairmen are back, to ensure transparency and follow-up.
