NSCDC Kwara Secures Life Imprisonment for Convicted Sexual Offender

The Kwara State command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has obtained a life sentence for a convicted sexual offender. The outcome was announced at a media briefing at the Ilorin headquarters on July 21, 2026, underscoring the Corps’ resolve to deliver justice in gender-based violence cases. Between January and June 2026, the NSCDC handled over 100 gender-related matters across the state. The Gender Unit recorded 36 domestic violence reports, 19 child custody disputes and 38 child abandonment cases. Of these, many have been resolved, while ongoing investigations aim to protect vulnerable victims. Commandant Abbas Mohammed highlighted nine recent abductions, with four victims safely reunited. He noted eight pending court cases involving rape, sexual assault and child molestation. He urged the public to report all incidents of domestic violence and child abuse for swift intervention and enforcement of the law.
