Senate Greenlights $70bn Border Security Package to Fund Trump’s Enforcement
The US Senate approved a $70 billion funding package to support President Trump’s immigration enforcement programme. The measure will back Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the US Border Patrol through the end of his current term. Senators spent hours in a “vote-a-rama” debating amendments. Republicans used the budget reconciliation process to bypass Democratic opposition after months of DHS funding clashes. Democrats had pushed for limits on raids in sensitive locations and for redirecting some funds to housing support. A few Republicans also backed tougher sanctions on Russia and military aid for Ukraine. The bill now moves to the House before heading to the president’s desk.
