Exploring the Life and Legacy of Federico García Lorca
Federico García Lorca (1898–1936) was a Spanish poet, playwright and theatre director. He became a leading member of the Generation of ’27, fusing symbolism, futurism and surrealism with Andalusian folklore in works like Gypsy Ballads. After studying law and composition in Granada, Lorca gained international praise. His time in New York inspired Poet in New York, while his major plays include Blood Wedding, Yerma and The House of Bernarda Alba. Known for his emotional depth and modern style, he explored themes of love, identity and rural life. Lorca was also openly gay, and his personal struggles influenced his art. He died at 38 near Granada during the Spanish Civil War.
