Students Protest After UNIOSUN Criminology Student Dies Amid Alleged Clinic Negligence
Students of Osun State University’s Ifetedo campus took to the streets on Thursday to demand a full investigation into the death of Grace Osunlakin, a 400-level Criminology and Security Studies student. They accused the campus clinic of closing for the day before her condition worsened and said she did not receive timely care. In response, university management announced a comprehensive probe into the incident. A statement assured that any staff found negligent will face disciplinary measures and urged students and stakeholders to avoid speculation. The campus has been closed indefinitely to allow for a thorough assessment of healthcare facilities and overall welfare. Governor Ademola Adeleke described the death as “deeply heartbreaking” and directed the state Ministry of Education to review emergency response and medical services at all public campuses. He called on everyone to remain calm and assured that the government will prioritise student safety as the investigation proceeds.
