Constitution Focuses on Inclusivity, Not Religion – Sule Hopes for Christian-Christian Ticket

Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule says the 1999 Constitution emphasises federal character, inclusiveness and ethnicity, not religious balancing. He explained this during an appearance on a national TV political programme. Responding to criticism from NDC vice-presidential hopeful Rabiu Kwankwaso, Sule dismissed the remarks as typical opposition politics. He pointed out that sections 14 and 15 of the Constitution address inclusiveness and ethnicity, with no mention of religion. Citing President Tinubu’s Muslim-Muslim ticket and MKO Abiola’s 1993 campaign, Sule said both examples succeeded. He added, “I pray that one day Nigeria will have a Christian-Christian ticket, and it will win.” He noted his choice of a Christian deputy in Nasarawa was based on competence, reflecting the state’s unique political context.
