LAGRIDE Driver Alleges Company Imposed ₦1.3m Debt After Withholding Earnings

A LAGRIDE driver says the Lagos-based ride-hailing firm falsely assigned him a ₦1.3m debt after he pressed for months of unpaid earnings. He claims to have generated about ₦9m in revenue over five months but hasn’t received a payout since October. After he complained, the company’s debt claim against him rose from ₦375,000 to ₦380,000, then to ₦800,000, ₦1.1m and finally ₦1.3m during a live interview. The driver says LAGRIDE has not provided a clear breakdown of these charges. The firm’s PR director denies arbitrary debts and says every captain can access full account records, adding that an internal review is underway.

I'm wondering how ride-hailing platforms calculate driver commissions and deductions—could there be a misunderstanding or missing clause in this driver's contract?

True, fees can hide penalties. It helps to review the full contract and ask for a clear breakdown of commissions and deductions.

I hear you, but platforms usually spell out commissions somewhere. Maybe the driver skimmed past key contract details.

It seems odd a driver generating nine million naira in revenue over five months still gets no payout since October—something doesn't add up here.

Not every unpaid balance means foul play; maybe the driver missed performance targets or violated company service terms, justifying this ₦1.3m charge.

Drivers should document and timestamp every trip and transaction, then escalate missing payouts through formal complaint channels or relevant regulatory bodies.
