Anioma Community Kingship Dispute Hits Court Over Succession Irregularities

Anioma Community Kingship Dispute Hits Court Over Succession Irregularities — 1 of 4
1 / 4

A fresh legal challenge has erupted in the Anioma Autonomous Community in Isuokoma, Onicha LGA, Ebonyi State. Chief Wisdom Chukwuma Okoye is asking the court to nullify the recent installation of the community’s traditional ruler. Okoye claims the election violated the established rotational succession system. He says his lineage was due to produce the next monarch and that local authorities had once halted the process over security concerns. His lawyer argues no valid election took place and is demanding a fresh, lawful process. The State High Court has scheduled accelerated hearings for June 18, June 29, and July 13, 2026 as parties prepare their evidence.
