APC Chieftain Slams Lawal’s Racist Remarks on Atiku Abubakar
I have been on a month-long break to focus on important issues. When I read Babachir David Lawal’s recent attack on the former Vice President, I was shocked by its racist tone. Many may see this as political, but it goes deeper. Lawal tagged the Waziri of Adamawa as “Kachalla,” a label now linked to bandits. He also called Atiku’s team “Fulani hegemonists” aiming to dominate Nigeria. This attack is not about policy. It targets the Fulani race itself. Lawal owes his career breaks to Fulani leaders like Muhammadu Buhari and Amina Mohammed, who mentored him and gave him opportunities. I do not share Atiku’s party, but he is my father and elder statesman. His patience and tolerance embody true democracy. Lawal’s divisive words risk stirring ethnic tension in Adamawa and across Nigeria.
