Effiong: Tinubu ‘Buying and Destroying’ Nigeria’s Integrity

Human rights lawyer Inibehe Effiong has accused President Bola Tinubu of widespread political inducement. He says Tinubu is buying and compromising people in unprecedented ways. Many principled Nigerians have become indifferent to bad governance. Effiong warns that once this administration is over, a special census will be needed to identify those whose integrity remains intact. He adds that some citizens are pretending neutrality while quietly resisting calls for change. He also criticized INEC’s handling of the African Democratic Congress leadership dispute. Effiong questioned the removal of David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola from INEC’s records and the suspension of all party factions pending a court ruling. He argued that internal party matters should be settled without judicial intervention.

While inducement is problematic, focusing only on Tinubu risks overlooking deeper systemic issues that long predate his presidency.

To rebuild integrity, civil society groups should strengthen transparency tools like public asset declarations and community monitoring networks.
