Garba Lawal on Why Onuachu Struggles to Score for the Super Eagles
Former Nigeria international Garba Lawal has offered insights into Paul Onuachu’s limited goal return for the Super Eagles. Since his debut, Onuachu has scored just four times in 30 appearances, including one goal at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. Yet he has been prolific for Trabzonspor, with 22 goals and two assists in 25 matches this season. Lawal told a sports outlet that national team football leaves little time for players to build rhythm. He compared Onuachu’s situation to Jonathan Akpoborie’s, noting that clubs give strikers time to find form, while international duty demands instant impact. Despite these challenges, Lawal believes Onuachu remains an important player for the Super Eagles. By James Agberebi
