Lafarge Fined $777m for Funding ISIS – Should Nigerians Boycott Their Cement?
I came across a report that Lafarge and its Syrian unit pleaded guilty to conspiring to fund ISIS and al-Nusrah between 2013 and 2014. They were ordered to pay $777.78 million in fines after evidence showed they paid extremist groups to protect their plant and even shared revenue with ISIS. Lafarge still supplies cement in Nigeria. Their actions abroad raise tough questions for consumers here. Should we boycott their products and seek alternatives? Large organisations sometimes operate in high-risk zones and cut corners for profit. How should we hold them to account on home soil?
