Safety Experts Launch Emergency Mining Inspections in Ankpa
The Institute of Safety Professionals of Nigeria (ISPON) and the Kogi State Safety Standards Regulations and Compliance team visited the Eje of Ankpa to kick off urgent safety checks at local mining sites. This engagement follows a recent pit collapse that claimed lives. The delegation met with His Royal Majesty Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq Ahmed Yakubu II and local leaders to strengthen partnerships between government, traditional institutions, security agencies, and host communities. Inspectors then assessed Zuma 828 Coal Mining Site, KOYLA Energy Limited, and the Alufele collapse site in Enjema District. They evaluated operational hazards, compliance with safety standards, and discussed modern mining practices to prevent future accidents. Stakeholders affirmed their commitment to safeguarding lives and promoting responsible mining. This initiative reinforces Kogi State’s dedication to occupational safety and community welfare in line with national best practices.
