INEC Clears Its Own: The Flaws in Amupitan’s Self-Acquittal
INEC claims its internal probe found no evidence that its chairman tweeted partisan support for Bola Tinubu. Yet the investigation lacks transparent proof. First, the timeline argument ignores edits that altered the original post’s timestamp. Second, independent account recovery linked the disputed account to Amupitan’s official email and phone. Third, absence of an archive record proves nothing, as low-traffic posts often go unrecorded. Fourth, renaming and locking the account likely signals panic by the original user, not impersonation. Fifth, later fake accounts tell us nothing about the genuine account created before his appointment. Finally, threats of arrest to silence critics resemble SLAPP tactics. When denial gives way to criminalization, the true motive may be to stifle scrutiny.
