Ogun’s Three Governors: Industrial Foundations, Infrastructural Leap, and Economic Consolidation
I examine how Gbenga Daniel, Ibikunle Amosun, and Dapo Abiodun each shaped Ogun State’s growth over the last two decades. Gbenga Daniel (2003–2011) laid the groundwork for industrial expansion. He created new estates and attracted private investment. His tenure also saw road upgrades and urban renewal, though critics cited uneven project distribution and financial concerns. Ibikunle Amosun (2011–2019) pursued major infrastructure projects. He built roads across all senatorial districts and delivered flyovers, model schools, and housing estates. His bold style transformed the state’s landscape but sparked debates over demolitions and rising debt. Since 2019, Dapo Abiodun has focused on consolidating past gains and fostering inclusive growth. He prioritised completing inherited projects, expanding industries along the Lagos–Ogun corridor, and launching the Gateway International Airport. His consultative approach has boosted investor confidence, even as some note that new infrastructure is slower to emerge.
