High Court Dismisses Victor Giwa’s Motions, Bans Public Comments in Forgery Trial
The FCT High Court in Apo on Wednesday dismissed Abuja lawyer Victor Giwa’s bid to halt his forgery and impersonation trial. Justice Onwuegbuzie affirmed the court’s jurisdiction and barred Giwa and his associates from making public statements about the case. Giwa and co-defendant Ibitade Bukola face allegations of forging documents to mislead the Attorney-General’s office into withdrawing an earlier criminal charge. The court threw out motions challenging its jurisdiction, motions to strike out the charge, and a recusal application. The judge also denied an application for the temporary release of Giwa’s passport for medical travel and refused to revoke his bail, warning that any future misconduct would be addressed. A request to amend the charge was rejected, and the trial is set to resume on May 18, May 25, June 3, June 4, and June 10, 2026.
