Tinubu and Wike Snub Fubara, Back Kingsley Chinda for Rivers Governor
President Bola Tinubu and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike have withdrawn support for Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s APC re-election bid. They have instead endorsed Kingsley Chinda, the former Minority Leader in the House of Representatives. An APC insider says the National Chairman has handed full control of the party’s Rivers State machinery to Wike. The minister used that authority to clear Chinda as the party’s preferred candidate for the 2027 governorship primary. Fubara was told to seek Wike’s approval before getting presidential backing. With Wike publicly opposed to his second term, Fubara will not secure the APC ticket. The party primaries kicked off on May 16 with contests for House of Representatives seats. In that first round, Fubara’s camp suffered early defeats.
