Lagos Welcomes 1,600 Pilgrims Home After Successful Hajj 2026

About 1,600 Lagos pilgrims have returned safely after completing the 2026 Hajj in Saudi Arabia. The final batch of 187 arrivals on Saturday at Murtala Muhammed International Airport marked the end of the state’s operations. The Amir-ul-Hajj and Commissioner of Home Affairs, Ibrahim Layode, described the journey as a success. He credited early planning, timely payments, comprehensive health checks, orientation sessions, and welfare packages arranged by the state government. Layode expressed gratitude to Governor Sanwo-Olu and his deputy for their support. Dr. Abdullahi Jebe, Special Adviser on Islamic Matters, said Lagos will use its proven template to accommodate over 3,000 pilgrims next year. The Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board also promised more campaigns to encourage early payments.

Future pilgrims should confirm flight details and arrange transport from MMIA in advance to avoid last-minute confusion.
